INSTRUCTIONAL COURSES:
SPRING SEMINAR
The Association for Bridge Construction and Design would like to welcome everyone to attend our
FHWA One-Day Seminar on Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Composite Bridge Technology. This
seminar seeks to be approved for 6-PDH Credits. The program covers FRP mechanics and general
design considerations; composite bridge deck design; pier column wrap design; FRP materials and
rebar considerations; and State DOT experiences using FRP materials.
Registration begins at 8:00 AM
Program 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM includes the following presentations:
- Introduction to FRP Materials/ FRP Rebar Issues; and Case Studies in Uses of Composites on West
Virginia Bridges; by Lou Triandafilou, FHWA Baltimore
- FRP Mechanics & General Design Issues; FRP Bridge Deck Qualification & Acceptance Criteria; and
FRP Instrumentation & Experimentation; by Dr. Hota Gangarao, West Virginia University
- FRP Bridge Decks and Superstructures and Innovative FRP Applications in New York State; by Jerry
O'Connor, MCEER at UB
- Oregon DOT Experiences with FRP Decks; by Raymond Bottenberg, Oregon DOT
- Bridge Strengthening/Retrofitting with FRP Wraps; by Ronald Watson, R.J. Watson, Inc.
